Week Two Activities

Hi,
Tanner here again. I have been super busy since Christmas. I stayed with my Poppa for three days and went fishing - he catches crayfish. We had a big family day for Christmas then we went to Tokerau Beach to ride our quad bikes on Boxing Day. I stayed with my other Nana and Poppa for three days and built traps for fish and rabbits. I haven't had a chance to go on my computer as I have been kept very busy. But, here is four activities from week 2 that I have been working on. I hope to do week 3 and 4 next week. The holidays should quiet down a little now. I hope you enjoy and you are having a great summer.

  1. Hi Tanner I liked the way that you have included a photo to go with each of the things you like to do. The one that interested me the most was the making traps and fishing one. What are any successes you have had with trapping and do you have any hints for others. My friend is a trapper and managed to get a stoat using an old sausage the other day. Do you use bait in your traps. I work for Manaiakalani.

  2. Kia Ora Tanner,

Sounds like you have had a fun filled holiday so far! Remember you can complete the activities over the whole holiday period. The Summer Learning Journey ends on Friday 24th January so you still have plenty of time to complete activities throughout January.

Well done on completing these activities to such a high standard. I can tell that you take your time to complete your Summer Learning Journey activities. I can tell there are plenty of things you enjoy doing in your spare time, hopefully the weather in Northland is better than it is here in Auckland. We have had quite a few overcast and windy days so far. Did you manage to catch anything in any of the traps you made? I used to trap possums with my sister and sell the fur for pocket money. All of my friends from Auckland thought that was weird but my sister and I thought it was perfectly normal!

You have made some good points in your letter to Jacinda Ardern. Did you know that she has an email where you can send her letters? If you wanted you could add a bit more information and you could send your letter to her! Her email is j.ardern@ministers.govt.nz in case you did want to send her letter through. I believe the children of New Zealand will have some great ideas about how to run our country. Especially ways to protect it so we are still known as clean green New Zealand for years to come.

    Keep up the awesome work!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani
