This week we made a Balloon hovercraft. WE have been learning how to write scientific reports.

QUESTION

How does a hovercraft hover?
HYPOTHESIS

I predict that it will do nothing because it needs helium.

EQUIPMENT
AND MATERIALS:
Balloon
Cd
And a bottle cap.
PROCEDURE:
Step 1: Using a hot glue gun glue the bottle cap over the cd hole.
Step 2: blow up a balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out.
Step 3:Stretch the balloon end over the bottle cap.
Step 4: Open up the cap and place the CD on a table lid.
Step 5: Untwist balloon and let go.
OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:
I saw the balloon go smaller and smaller and the CD hover on the table.

CONCLUSION:
The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the surface. The air lifts the CD and reduces the friction which allows the CD to hover across the surface.

  1. Hi Tanner it's Lawrence from Team Moana. I really liked your diagram for your experiment. I think you hypothesis is very smart because a balloon can only float in the air with helium.
