Venus Fly Trap VS. Baseball Plant
This activity was very interesting because I never knew any of the 10 plants were real. They were all very weird. My favourite was the Venus Fly Trap because it looks vicious and I wonder if it can hurt a human if it bites you. Here is a Venn diagram I did with my Mum.
My 8th birthday cake

Activity 1: Fantastic Beasts
Hi,
Here is my beast from day 3. I took so long to post because I wanted to do an animation.
My beast is an Indo-Rex. It has a spiky spine with large blood-red eyes. The pointy, narrow and jagged jaws eat through metal. It has rough light grey skin and a patch of dark grey armor to protect itself from its creators. In my animation you can see how it gets away from its creators.
I hope you like it.

Activity 1: Towering Timbers
Hi,
Yes I think logging should be allowed in NZ.
Reason 1 is because we need houses so people aren't homeless. We can use wood to make tables, chairs, couches, TV cabinets and lots of other furniture and even some boats.
Reason 2 is we need paper for lots of things like books, cards, drawing pads.

Activity 3: The WWF: World Wildlife Fund
Hi, I have chosen to do Snow Leopards. They are big cats. There are only 4000 to 6500 left in the wild. They live in the mountains in Asia.
WWF are working with people in Nepal to stop people killing the snow leopards.
WWF help the farmers by giving them money if their animals get killed and the farmers don't shot them as much now.
I did a lot of reading with mum to find out this information.
Mum had to help me understand.

Activity 1: Scaling New Heights
Hi Sir Edmund Hilary my name is Tanner. How are you? Would you like a drink before we start?
I have some questions I would like to ask you about your life and climbing mountains.
1. Was it cold when you climbed Mt Everest?
2. Where did you sleep on the mountain? Were there caves to sleep in?
3. Was it fun climbing these mountains? Did you have any friends with you?
4. Did you have a jacket when you were climbing Mt Everest?
5. What did you eat for breakfast, morning tea, lunch and dinner?
6. Do you have any kids?
7. When is your birthday?
8. Where do you live now? Do you have a big house?
Thank you for letting me interview you.

Weird and Wonderful
A cactus can survive in 3mls of water. In one year there is 365 days. But in a leap year there is 366 days.
Here is a photo of my working out.
For a normal year with 365 days it works out to be 1095mls and in a leap year it is 366 days the answer is 1098mls.

Fabulous Ferns
The three sports that have fern in their name are;
Black Ferns they are the woman's rugby team.
Black Ferns shirt
Silver Ferns they are a netball team
Silver Ferns Dress
One I didn't know but found out was the Football ferns they play soccer.
Football Ferns Uniform
I put links because of copyright.
I like the Black Ferns the best because they play my favourite sport. And we also had a Black Ferns player come to our school and to my rugby practise in Ohaeawai and we had races with her. Her name was Portia Woodman.

Day Two - Forest Life
Hi,
At school this year I studied Kauri die back. Kauri die back is a deadly disease for trees. Many trees have died from Kauri die back. We need to save the trees. Already DOC are making special brushes to clean your feet when you go in to see the Tane Mahuta. Here is a photo of me and my dad in front of Tane Mahuta when I was 3. I went there again last year but I can't find the photos.

SLJ - My Hometown
Hi,
My hometown is Kaikohe. I live on a big green property. Kaikohe has a big red warehouse and a Mc Donalds that I get a yummy cheeseburger from. I don't go to Kaikohe much but I live in the country and ride my fast, white and black motorbike and build huts out of trees and spiky branches.

SLJ - Day One - New Zealand fun facts
Hi,
1. I found out that the Maori word Aotearoa means the land of the long white cloud. I'm not really sure what that means so I looked it up and it has some different stories but the one I liked was that the people that came to New Zealand a long time ago were guided in the daytime by a long white cloud and at night time there was a long bright cloud.
2. New Zealand is part of the Pacific Rim and the active volcano is Mt Ruapehu. And I am going there in two years on a school trip.
3. New Zealanders are called Kiwis because of our native flightless bird. The Kiwi.
4. The Auckland city Sky Tower is 328 metres high and is the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere.
See you tomorrow for more SLJ.
